The Apprentice, Week 12:
Pontiac Solstice Car
Original Air Date: 4/14/05
Now Carolyn asks Chris what the problem was with their brochure, and Chris, with only one thing available for him to point his finger at, says, “Obviously, the writing.” To which George points out, “You could have the most beautiful language in the world, and no one would read it.” Because their brochure blows, that is.
Without even bothering to send the team out of the room, Trump asks his advisors what he should do. Both obviously want Chris out; Carolyn being a tad more gentle and mom-like than exasperated George.
No dilly dallying here. Trump chastises Bren’s terrible writing, and that “Alex did nothing about it.” Alex stupidly tries to interrupt at this point, to which Trump says in a disgusted tone of voice, “You did nothing about it. You were sleeping.” Methinks Mr. Metro’s days may be numbered here. But alas, the cookie has crumbled, and the Squeakmeister has popped out one too many times, “The team was a mess; the project was no good; and Chris, you’re fired.” Just in case Chris doesn’t feel crappy enough, Trump repeats, “Seven weeks in a row. You. Are. Fired. Out. Go.”
On their way out, I swear I hear a sniffle. Could it be? Oh, man. Trump calls out, “Hey Chris, two things.” Oh the humanity! Chris is crying. Seeing that Trump has probably never spent more than five minutes at a time with his own children, it’s all really quite uncomfortable and awkward when he tells Chris, “Don’t take it so hard. Get over here!” Now poor Chris has to cross over to the other side of the table and stand over Trump, all while he’s weeping like an unabashed woman. “You’re going to watch your temper. You’ve got a lot of emotion and sometimes that gets into temper. Number two: stay away from that damned tobacco. You got it?” “Yes sir.” Sniffle. “You’ve got a lot of potential. You’re going to be a big success.” On his way out, Chris is still sobbing. By the elevators, he hugs Bren and Alex. Still sobbing. “It’s all good,” he promises. God, he scares me.

But even with all the emotional instability and questionable control over his social interactions, Chris still gets his props. “I think he’s a good kid,” Trump says. “Great kid,” Carolyn agrees. George stays quiet.
On his cab ride to Hotel Oblivion, Chris is grateful for the incredible experience and that he got to end it all with Alex and Bren: “I got to go into combat with two of my bros.” Well, it wasn’t much of a combat, but that’s okay, Chris is onto greater things. I mean, once he finishes off the community service.
Next week: Craig calls Kendra “young lady” and ooooh does he make me mad!
