The Apprentice, Week 11: American Eagle Outfitters and Wearable Tech

Original Air Date: 4/7/05

So Trump, snobby, elitist Trump, says, “Alex was a star until he met these two losers.  And now you’ve become a loser also…I always said, you hang out with losers, you become a loser.”  God.  So mean!

Advising Trump, Carolyn wants Chris out—she’s probably like me in not understanding why he’s even here.  “I’m really trying to figure out what it is Chris is doing.  I don’t see him stepping up; he seems to have a lot excuses.”  Michelle blames the loss on Angie’s sloppy presentation, but she’s new and unbiased.  And did we mention the anomaly of an attractive woman being tough?

Trump latches onto the fact that Angie choked to the exclusion of everything else, and he’s just dying for someone to say it out loud.  “She’s very smart; she’s got a lot of things going…Did she choke, did she choke?” he hammers.  Angie knows she messed up, but maintains that the entire project was a disaster from start to finish.  It’s a tough game: they did lose on the bad presentation, but obviously no one saw Alex’s screw ups beforehand, and Chris wasn’t actually around to really mess anything up.

Thank goodness for people like Carolyn.  She nails Alex with unarguable logic: “Do you think Angie had proper time to prepare for this presentation?” she asks.  He says, “I believe so.” Well, then, “if she had enough time, why did she fail so poorly?” Alex responds, “I believe she cracked under pressure.”  But, Carolyn says, “She hasn’t cracked under pressure before.  So what was your job, Alex?”  Heheheehehe.  She points out that while his job was to make sure “everything was taken care of,” everything was actually a failure.  Now this project-manager mentality of delegating all the work to other people has been called out several times before now, what with Audrey Evans and all, so I’m not sure how Trump can let Alex get away with that.  I assume they’re gunning for Alex in the final four, which is why he’s continuously called “a star” when we’ve seen nothing beyond “Meatball Masterpiece” from him.

Trump pulls a fast one on us as he starts picking on Chris:  “I’m not really looking to work on somebody’s temper.”  Chris does his best to fight back: “Are you willing to work with someone who is willing to change on a daily basis?” but I can’t say I’ve seen that happen, and it certainly doesn’t fly with Trump.  Final Four Alex is commended, “Again, you’ve been really good. You’ve been brought down by these two people. These two people are disasters.”  Good God, did Trump not hear a word that Carolyn just said?

Trump finally says that his “only problem is that when Angie loses, she is not great.  Um…I don’t actually know what that means, because what exactly constitutes being great when your team loses?  “You were better than the other losers, and they got fired.”  Am I just dumb today, but is this so not making sense?  Finally Trump grasps onto the one concrete thing he’s got, which is, “The one thing that really bothered me is that when you made the presentation, you choked.  Do you agree with that?”  Angie agrees, “I could have done better.”  But for some reason, today Trump really wants to hear the word “choked.”  “Do you agree you choked?” he asks. “Yes, sir.”  Alrighty then…“Angie, you’re fired.”

Not much going on in the cab.  Angie can’t believe she was fired over Chris, and I think she’s totally right.  But whatever, it was a boring episode.
