The Apprentice, Week 10: Domino's Pizza and Meatballs

Original Air Date: 4/4/05

By Sarika Chawla

The teams are rather snotty this week as they discuss who isn’t returning from the boardroom. The general consensus is that that Erin Elmore’s boobs will be swinging back in shortly, which doesn’t make anyone all too happy.  Stephanie Myers sounds almost like an empowered woman when she says, “If Erin comes back, she is going to be on fire!”  But then it turns out that she’s just jealous: “You can only use your sex appeal for so far.”  I don’t know; Erin’s boobs do seem to have a whole personality of their own.

When Erin’s boobs don’t return, everyone is thrilled except for conflicted Stephanie.  Now she’s technically the most attractive woman left in the bunch (maybe a tad past her prime), but “I was pretty much stuck with Angie and Chris. They’re mean; they’re rude; they argue; they’re verbally abusive.”

We see a nice demonstration of what she means as Angie McKnight rails into Stephanie for not supporting her in the boardroom and does it in that passive aggressive “I’m going to be all amusingly overdramatic while saying mean things to you” kind of way.  Those kinds of women are impossible to argue with.  Flailing her limbs and rolling her eyes, Angie exclaims, “You didn’t help me out a bit and you know it” and makes fun of Stephanie’s wishy-washiness in the boardroom. Chris Shelton sits next to them giggling. Giggling, I tell you.  No other word to describe it.

The highly-educated members of Magna, Kendra Todd, Bren Olswanger, and Alex Thomason, scheme in the bedroom.  They do have a kind of a Justice League thing going on there.  Alex could be Superman; Kendra is Wonder Woman; and Bren is like, um,
Gleek the Wonder Monkey.  I mean that out of love.  Bren has really grown on me.  They decide that Bren will be the project manager, and Kendra brags, “We’ve won with and without Tana and Craig, and we want to stay on top.”

Kendra answers Rona’s call and it turns out she looks exactly the same with and without makeup. Wouldn’t it be super funny if one of them called Rona first?  Like, “Hello, Rona, this is Kendra. Where would you like us to meet Mr. Trump?”  That would be wicked proactive.

Over at Trump Tower, Donald Trump is making small talk with a man in a very large chef’s hat. The thing is huge.  “So, Chris, how is the buffet doing?” he asks.  The master chef grins, “It’s the finest one on 5th Avenue.”  Trump guffaws, “It’s the finest one in the city.  C’mon you have to speak a little bigger.”  Thankfully, this painfully awkward conversation, with a man who is clearly under Trump’s employ and is currently crapping in his pants, ends quickly.

Two very small teams meet with Trump, who immediately makes fun of Net Worth for being “decimated.”  Not very nice, especially since I think 5 to 3 isn’t exactly a case of decimation. But whatever, I’m all for a little dramatic license.  He asks Net Worth to choose a Magnite to go to their side.  Pretending that they haven’t already foreseen this move and made their decision long ago, Net Worth actually huddles with their heads together and emerges with big silly grins. “Alex.”  They all hug, even though Alex looks likes he wants to wash his hands after being in contact with these uneducated sorts who are rolling in filthy new money.

So apparently they are all standing near the finest buffet in the entire country!  Mmmmm…cakes.  Trump explains that one of his creations was a “great pizza oven.”  Mmmmm…pizza.  Their job is to create an original pizza for Domino’s, and he not-so-subtly hints that what he would especially enjoy are meatballs.  Mmmm…meatballs.  The teams have until three o’clock the next day to sell pizzas from a mobile kitchen.  There’s a lot of mobility this season, what with mobile businesses and mobile islands and such.  Hey, that could be like a metaphor for people without college degrees moving up in the social strata and…well, whatever.
