  The Apprentice, Week 7:
Miniature Golf, Chelsea Piers, and Trump National Golf Club

Original Air Date: 3/3/05

John vetoes the idea, saying that he’d rather have someone in charge that doesn’t have problems with anybody else.  Like Chris.  Oh please, oh please, oh please, put Chris in charge.  And make it some sort of girlie man’s task that makes him say “Sir, I am not a homosexual” again.

No such luck.  Audrey brings out her wonderfully feisty side and convinces the team that she can do the job.  Even while focusing intently on his laptop, off in the corner somewhere, John graciously manages to raise his head to say, “You sold me.”

Audrey lays out her plan and, well, I’d like to take this time to offer a bit of grammar advice. Serious.  People, don’t say “utilize” when “use” will do just as well.

Audrey puts Craig on marketing, Chris on course design and…well, that seems about all that the task requires.  The rest of the team can go home. Audrey assigns John to, “um, I want John to actually put together—what is it that we’re marketing here?”
Tana calls that promotions, but I sort of think that in a one-day task like this, marketing and promotions are pretty much the same thing, which is essentially handing out flyers.

Finally we get a glimpse of Magna.  Team leader Stephanie pitches the name “Safari Sunday.”  “I think it’s GRrrrr-eat!” Erin Elmore says, her head flopping around and her nose scrunching up.  Erin may be completely growing on me, but she also reminds me of a Muppet.  I don’t think I could stand to be around her for more than twenty seconds.  And how come all of Magna has crazy sunglasses on when it’s not even sunny out?

Woefully underexposed Kendra comes up with a pretty clever idea, which is to set up a cross promotion with the other sporting venues at Chelsea Piers, like the rock climbing people. Even though she tells each of these venues that it’s an “exclusive” promotion, all that seems to mean is that there are twelve different flyers floating around.  “We effectively shut Net Worth out,” Kendra brags.

Whoa, Nellie.  Net Worth is doing a circus theme, which to me, has disaster written all over it.  Name one person who doesn’t know someone who is deathly afraid of clowns.  Chris walkie-talkies to ask Audrey whether the men should be passing out flyers in people’s homes (in their homes? ) or putting together the greens.

Audrey, you rule, but at this point you prove that you have never, ever seen an episode of The Apprentice.  Rather than just saying what she thinks and sticking to it, she gripes, “John needs to make the decision based on what he thinks is the best way to go about doing the promotion.  I’m asking you to let me know which one you think is going to be better served for the team to be successful.”  Don’t get me wrong—I’m so on the Audrey side of this battle, especially when John guffaws like a class A jerkwad, but seriously, woman.  The guys keep pushing her to make a decision, and all she does is keep pushing it back on them.

The same battle of wills continues at night, when Audrey wants everyone to give her an update on what has been done.  I dunno.  I think it sounds perfectly reasonable.  You don’t think Trump wants status reports from Bill Rancic every couple of days?  But no one will tell Audrey anything, and John whines that it’s a waste of time. “You’re trying to set me up as some sort of a scapegoat like I didn’t handle promotions properly.”  Angie valiantly stands up for Audrey, basically calling John a delusional fool.
