The candidate caliber is largely what's wrong. They resemble a rag-tag bunch of rejects from a call for crowd Extras in a hicktown soap opera. Not serious contenders for a high powered, high exposure executive position in an industrial nation's capital city - in a major corporation no less! (Mind you, just exactly what is the position and reward offered to the Stewart winner? Could these pathetic candidates be a case of "yez gets wotchyez pays for"?)
Secondarily, it's hard to follow Trump and while Stewart has her own distinct style it simply isn't distinct enough. I get the feeling Ms.Stewart is Mother Superior conducting a class for nunnery novitiates not CEO interviewing for a prospective top notch employee.
I don't think it helps that the show's theme music is more than mundane and the "rewards" are downright cheap. Ah, but it's a case of: "Give back to the community" she sez? Pshaw, fiddle faddle and poppycock. Sell that bridge to someone else Martha, this is 2005.
Could it be rather, that during Stewart's recent "vacation", sponsors hightailed it to distant, safer ground? Or is it that the show's staff, sellingwise, is clueless? I mean really, hello? A shopping spree at Walmart even? How hard a sell is that!
Back to the candidates though. Trump's are bad enough this season, Martha's? Sheesh. When there isn't even one an audience can get behind and root for then the show's end becomes ho-hum, who cares. The purpose for watching week after week, well, it just isn't there.
When I read of the week's outcome now it's only to see if 1: that most unpleasant clown Jim Bozo-ni, has he gone yet?
if I flip the dial for a cursory tune-in, it's to see if 2: have they stopped stuffing their faces in every camera shot? (Good lord were these people ever fed in their life before The Apprentice !?!!?)
Who wins I couldn't care less. Not a one deserves it. <yawn> |
