Lee and the rest of the Gold Rush team took a rather casual approach to fundraising for their charity, The Leary Firefighters Foundation. No one even bothered to write down any ideas for their event. Carolyn nailed it when she said, “Lee seems to think this event will run itself.” When the director of the foundation shot down the idea of auctioning off dates with firefighters, Gold Rush didn’t have anything else to suggest. Needless to say, the director was not too happy. She was so concerned that she called back later to find out what Gold Rush had come up with. When Lee again spitballed ideas off the top of his head, she demanded that he walk her through the entire event that evening at Chelsea Pier. Lee and the Gold Rush team certainly felt unprepared.
Not that Gold Rush had ignored the fundraising completely. They had gotten Pontiac to donate two brand new cars for them to auction off. Although Pepi had brought up the notion of Pontiac matching funds raised, neither he nor Lee ever pursued the matter. In fundraising, as in all sales, you have to ask for the deal. Fall down on the close, and you probably won’t get it.

What’s more, Gold Rush missed a perfect opportunity to solicit fundraising assistance from their celebrity guests. If every famous player on the team would have signed a hockey jersey to be sold at the silent auction, it could have significantly contributed to the ultimate bottom line.
Over on the Synergy team, meanwhile, Andrea was coughing up blood and had to leave to get medical attention. Terrible. Sean did the right thing though, insisting she leave immediately and not worry about coming back to work. After all, part of managing people is doing what's right for them and seeing to it that they get their personal needs met.
Will Andrea be all right? Will Sean be able to pull off his event, down one member? Will The Leary Firefighters Foundation pull out of the celebrity hockey tournament? Will Sean get Tammy to go out with him? Which team will raise the most money?
